Microsoft used to be the uncool, old school geek who seemed to just exist through the profit and monopoly of its ugly OS. Then on November 15, 2001 they broke the mold by launching Xbox, followed by a successful launch of XBox 360. On April 25, 2014, Microsoft put its disastrous mobile strategy behind and purchased the Nokia line. At the same time, Microsoft was putting that hard cash into all sorts of product areas such as Skype, Facebook, to name but 2. It also launched the Microsoft Surface Pro, a tablet + desktop duo with the power to run Office AND Adobe Suite. Plus the mind-blowing HoloLens that got people screaming at the top of their lungs. Suddenly Microsoft is playing Apple at its own game and attracting the attention young, cool and design-savvy community. Apple used to be that innovative challenger against Microsoft the lazy Giant. Now the dynamic has changed. Microsoft has become the dynamic innovator capable of raising the playing field on multiple fronts. If you are a high schooler who is immersed in the gaming world, who think being cool is knowing how to programming and build your own machine, then Microsoft suddenly presents itself as a preferable choice. Microsoft is still a geek – but now being a geek is cool and that puts them in a very powerful place as the next few years play out. Your move, Apple.
